Bracebridge Heath Industrial

Overview

Bracebridge Heath Industrial Character Area is a mainly light industrial area located along the eastern side of the A15 Sleaford Road, which is a busy highway carrying moderately high volumes of traffic and one of the main arterial routes south of Lincoln.

Buildings are large in scale and are set within spacious plots arranged parallel to the Sleaford Road. Several buildings are converted large World War II aircraft hangars which are uniform in design and scale and which provide a distinctive feature of this Character Area, relating to the historic use of the site for the assembling and repair of aircraft. Buildings are predominantly constructed of brick, although roofs, many of which have been re-clad, show a greater variety of materials. Private access to buildings is via wide entranceways off the Sleaford Road.

The Character Area forms a complete urban block, as there is no public space within, nor public access through, the Character Area. Plots are frequently defined by tall security fencing, often composed of chain link fences on concrete uprights, punctuated by large gates.

Rural views exist to the east and south of the Character Area and are glimpsed through the buildings within the area. Views of residential properties occur to the north and west and there are linear views along Sleaford Road. These limited views indicate little relationship to Lincoln.
